I am a 32 year old Egyptian author, who works in the field of IT, a father of 2 and a husband! I’ve began my journey with novel writing some five years ago. I published my first book “Ruptured” in May 2011, and currently working towards my 2nd.
Hello! What’s your name?
Tarek Hassan Refaat
What do you write and why?
Well I write a variety of things but now am focused on Novels, fiction mainly haven’t taken a specific theme yet though.
Do you read the same genre that you write? Why or why not?
Well not much to be honest I am mainly so much into history!
What is the title you are promoting right now?
What is it about?
Ruptured is a book that tackles Rape from a very different angle, mainly the social struggle the victim suffers while trying to get her life back on track.
What makes this book different from others in your genre?
Most of other books concerned with rape mainly are focused around the incident itself or catching the culprit, but Ruptured goes beyond that it walks with the victim as she tries get the pieces of her life back together and face the society which already treats her as expired goods!
What’s the story behind the story?
Well, Ruptured hit me one day on my way to work; it was something I wanted to tackle (rape) but wanted for it to be different. And so one day it just popped up
What is your goal as an author?
Well my goal is basically to be able to entertain and help as many people as I can with what I write!
Are you working on anything new? Give us a preview of what’s to come!
There is a second full novel currently under editing and there’s a work in progress third one.
Who is your favorite author and what is your favorite book?
Paul Brickhill is amazing, he’s wrote the biography for Douglas Bader
Where can readers find you and your work?
Ruptured is available on Amazon kindle here:
Also available on books.com.eg
What’s your view on the self-publishing/traditional publishing thing? Ideally, which one would you prefer and why?
Each is a separate experience with its pros and cons , while self publishing teachers the author to be aware of the entire process his book goes through, while the traditional publishing gives the author more time to focus on his writing
Do you have a favorite quote?
“Rules are for the obedience of fools and guidance of wise men”
What is the most important advice you have for aspiring authors?
Never, ever, ever , ever give up! Keep on trying, you just have to, writing is a matter of taste and people accept or reject very different things. Do not let yourself be fooled if you don’t make it the first time, keep on trying, you’ll get there
Is there anything else you’d like to say before we finish up?
Well, thank you very much for having me for this interview, it does mean a lot for me to be here! Thank you for your time!
